What Does A First Period Look Like?

The albatross (Charles Baudelaire)

Charles Baudelaire

The albatross
for pleasure, often, the crews
capture of albatrosses, large seabirds,
below, indolent fellow travelers ,
the ship that goes up gliding bitter depths.
And I have just placed on the deck of blue king
they leave,
inept and dishonorable, their hips
miserably, like oars, aggregates,
the white and large wings. How cowardly and clumsy
this winged traveler!
him a little while ago so beautiful, as ugly and comic
! Someone with a pipe
whets the beak here and there a more
the sick flying, limping
mimes. As the prince of the clouds

is the poet who, accustomed to the storm,
you ride the bow: but
exiled on earth, including taunts,
his giant wings prevent him from walking

ORIGINAL VERSION IN FRENCH
The albatross

Souvent, s'amuser pour, les hommes d'équipage
Prennent des albatros, Vasto oiseaux des mers,
Here suivent, indolents Compagnons de voyage, Le navire
Glissant sur les Gouffres amers.
A peine les ont-ils déposés on the boards,
That these kings of the blue, awkward and ashamed,
Pathetically let their great white wings like oars
hang beside them.
This winged traveler, it is awkward and weak!
He, once so beautiful, how comical and ugly! One
teases his beak with a cutty,
Another mimics, limping, the crippled flyer!
The poet is like the prince of the clouds Who haunts the tempest
and laughs at the archer;
Exiled on earth amongst the shouting,
His giant wings prevent him from walking
