The novel begins with the protagonist (Rosario chiarchiaro) ready to go to court dressed all in black to request a strange "license". It was this: he was a driver who claimed that Mr. chiarchiaro was a bearer of bad luck. Now unemployed chiarchiaro saw in this patent is the only source of income.
